About

Surface detailing, correction and restoration

Altus Finishes applies one standard of surface work across aerospace, marine and automotive.

The company

Built from automotive, expanding by discipline

Altus Finishes started in Nanaimo on regular, everyday vehicles — used cars and daily drivers, not showroom exotics. The brief was simple and it still holds: restore, protect, elevate.

That work built real experience — volume, repetition, and the harder problems that come with both — and the reputation grew with it. Over time the shop took on more specialized correction and protection work, including higher-end and collector vehicles, without ever changing the standard applied to an ordinary daily driver.

The methods that produce a genuinely corrected finish on a car translate directly to a gelcoat hull and to a painted airframe. That’s the reason for three divisions rather than one service list. Aerospace, marine and automotive each have their own surfaces and constraints — the standard the work is held to doesn’t change between them.

The shop is in Nanaimo. Automotive work happens there; marine and aerospace work is carried out on site across Vancouver Island.

Principles

How we approach every surface

Read the surface first

Every project starts with an honest look before we recommend anything. We only do the work a surface actually needs.

Matched to the surface

The correction method is chosen for the condition, material and result in front of us — not run on a fixed setting regardless of the job.

Protect what we corrected

A corrected finish that isn't protected won't stay that way. We match the protection to how the piece actually gets used.

Document everything

You get a record of what was done, the products used, and a simple plan to maintain the result.

Process

What working with us looks like

  1. 01

    Inspect

We talk through the vehicle, vessel or aircraft, your goals and how it's used, then assess the surface in controlled lighting. Nothing is booked until the objective and condition are both clear.

  2. 02

    Prepare

A written scope sets out exactly what will be done. The surface is then decontaminated and prepared so correction and protection can be carried out properly.

  3. 03

    Correct

The correction method is chosen for the surface in front of us — its condition, material and what the result needs to be — then carried out in stages.

  4. 04

    Protect

Once the finish is right, it's sealed with a coating or film system chosen for how the asset is actually used and stored.

  5. 05

    Inspect again

The finished surface is checked under the same lighting used at the start, so the result against the original condition is plain to see.

  6. 06

    Handover & care

You leave with a record of what was done and a simple maintenance plan to protect the work going forward.
